Location

Choosing the right location for your session depends on a few things—the season, how busy the spot will be, and whether you want a local or more of a destination session. Here in Denver, the options are endless! People love heading to the mountains for those gorgeous backdrops, especially in the fall when the colors are stunning or when snow is finally on the ground. Sunrise or sunset always gives the best light, and outdoor sessions really shine during those times. If you're after a more urban look, Denver’s architecture offers clean, bright options, especially in winter when the landscape isn't as colorful. For a bolder, more colorful feel, parks and gardens work beautifully in the spring and summer, full of flowers and greenery. Whether you're drawn to the mountains, city vibes, or somewhere in between, Denver offers the perfect spots to create timeless portraits!

Deciding on your outfit can definitely feel like one of the hardest parts of getting ready for your session! I totally get it—you want to look amazing, but you’re not sure what works best on camera. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with my best tips.

For the ladies: dresses are a game-changer! Whether it’s a casual sundress or a full-length gown, they always look beautiful on camera. The movement, elegance, and flow of a maxi dress instantly elevate the entire vibe of your photos. Trust me, when I see a client show up in a flowing, floor-length dress, I just know their gallery will be stunning. It adds a sense of grace that’s hard to achieve with pants, and it also makes posing much easier!

For the gentlemen: You’ve got options! Suits always look sharp, but if you’re going for a more relaxed vibe, sweaters and button-downs are a great choice. Pair them with slacks or nice jeans for a laid-back yet polished look. Layers, like a jacket or sweater, not only add interest but also give you flexibility in your photos. Whether formal or casual, layers bring that extra bit of style.

Whatever style you choose, the key is to feel confident and comfortable. When you feel good, it shows in your photos!

Colors

When planning your outfits for your photo session, one of the most important considerations is location. Living in Denver, we have the perfect backdrop for any style—whether it’s vibrant gardens, chic downtown settings, or the breathtaking mountains. If you’re opting for a session in a garden or a natural setting, neutrals work wonders. They allow you to stand out without competing with the rich colors of nature. For instance, soft beige, whites, and pastels can create a beautiful, harmonious look that complements the surroundings.

Conversely, if your photoshoot takes place in an urban environment, don’t hesitate to go bold! Bright colors will pop against the more muted tones of city architecture. A striking red dress or a vivid blue shirt can add energy to your photos, making you the focal point of the shot.

Another essential tip is to coordinate your outfits instead of matching them. If you and your partner and/or children wear identical colors or patterns, you risk blending together and losing that personal touch in your photos. Instead, choose a color palette that features a dominant color for each person while including hints of those colors in others’ outfits. For example, if one of you wears a stunning emerald dress, the other could incorporate that shade with an accessory. This way, you create a cohesive look without losing individuality.

And remember, I’m here to help! If you’re uncertain about what colors work best or how to coordinate your outfits, feel free to share your ideas with me. I love helping clients feel confident and look their best during our sessions!
